Blogging 101

I actually started this blog in 2008 with the plan of posting photos, scrapbook pages, freebies, page designs and crafting how tos.  Due to a busy life of work, grandsons and a tendency to procrastinate my posts were rather random.

After an early retirement last year, I suddenly found more time to write.   At first, I just wanted a platform to write about the process of building our house.   Surprisingly, I found that I was constantly thinking about possible topics.  Soon, I was spending more and more time writing.  My hubby listens to my rough drafts and tries to be supportive. Truthfully though, my family is having difficulty understanding why I’m putting so much time into writing a blog.   I just tell them this may lead to a new career. I’ve decided that if I’m going to continue spending so much time writing posts for my blog that I should learn more about blogging. I did a little research and found out there is much I need to learn.   Luckily for me, Word Press offers a Blogging U and  Blogging 101 started this week.

Assignment 1 – Introduce Yourself

These are some of the questions we were to consider as part of this first assignment.

• Who would you love to connect with via your blog?

I’d like to connect with other photographers, writers, creative DIYers, crafters and anyone who likes to reflect on life in general.

• If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

At the end of this year, I hope to have written posts on a consistent basis.   Right now my goal is to post at least twice a week.  I’d like to show a steady increase in readers.  Eventually, I’d like to earn an income from my writing and photography.

• Who are you?

I’m a wife, mom, and grams who was a teacher and school librarian for many years; but retired early to pursue some new interests. I’ve learned that the librarian/teacher part of me doesn’t stop just because I no longer go to work. So — now I’m a librarian/teacher that’s busy taking photographs, crafting, scrapbooking, reading, traveling, and being a wife, mom and grams. I also enjoy working with all sorts of technology and playing online games.     I’m a proud Texan (I know it sounds corny; but that’s Texas.) I love to travel; but I’m always happy to get home to Texas.

My Family

My family includes my hubby, daughter, son, 3 grandies and 2 mini Schnauzers. The grandies are 7, 6 and 2 ½. I call my grandsons the grandies because the 2 oldest have told me that I can’t call them my grandbabies anymore.  Since our daughter and son left for the big cities — it’s just been me, the hubby and our dogs hanging out. Luckily, I’m married to a wonderful, supportive guy. He’ll stop along the road for me to take a photograph and he doesn’t mind a few DIY projects. He’s also a great Dad and Pops.

Rainy Day Reflections

My posts revolve around my reflections and thoughts about life, crafting, scrapbooking and photography,  There’s also a new category called “Let’s Build a House”.  I decided to blog about building a house rather than just documenting the process in my journal because I hope that it might help someone else going through the process. Building a custom home requires lots of research as you make your decisions. Those of us on a budget while building need to stick together. I’m glad you stopped by for a visit.
