I’m still working out of my comfort zone with the Writing 201 – Poetry class. It’s actually rather fun — until I think about sharing my attempts at learning to write poetry.
Today’s assignment
- Word prompt – Journey
- Form – Limerick
- Device – Alliteration
Next to onomatopoeia, alliteration is my favorite literary device. I’m just not use to trying to write it as a line in a poem.
Limerick
Where the Waters Flow
On a cruise, I’d love to go!
I’ll be happy anywhere the waters flow,
Cozumel, Barcelona, London, or Rome.
Just give me a week away from home,
With no sloppy, slippery, slopes of snow.
Traveling
Just what shall we see
As we travel in our RV?
Green mountains with tall timbers,
Beautiful blue bayous, lakes and rivers
All equally amazing; we certainly agree.
What’s your favorite type of poetry and literary device?
Thanks for stopping by to read my attempts at learning to write poetry.
Wonderful imagery!

“With no sloppy, slippery, slopes of snow….Beautiful blue bayous,” I’m enjoying your out of comfort zone alliteration and poetry. Very well done.

Wonderful imagery, is all I can think of. And you sure did wake up the wanderlust in me with those words. You have a great talent in playing with words.

I’d never know you are new to it. You write poetry very well! And I bet there are a lot of people relating to your first one right now. I will look at your about page and see if it says where you live!

Thanks so much. I live in the Panhandle of Texas. We had 12 inches of snow several weeks ago. 🙂 The road crews scooped it up into piles and it stayed around for way too long.

That is unusual for Texas isn’t it?

Snow isn’t unusual for this part of Texas. We just don’t usually get so much at one time. It seems every 4 or 5 years we’ll get large amounts of snow. One year we got 20 inches at once. Most of the time it’s 5 inches or less at a time. It snowed this morning and now we have sun with blue sky and white clouds. (It’s still cold though.)
