Today’s Assignment
- Word prompt – Trust
- Form – Acrostic
- Device – Internal Rhyme
Writing 201 -Poetry provides a great opportunity for me to attempt something I’ve never tried before. For some reason, this 3rd assignment seemed to triple the difficulty for me. In a former life, I taught 5th grade Language Arts and we wrote our own form of acrostic poetry. Now it’s true these acrostic poems were name poems with one word lines; even so, I was hopeful this assignment might seem easier. Then, I added the word prompt, “trust” and my brain just froze. As I’ve shared, writing poetry is way out of my comfort zone; but I’m still going to share this rough draft of my first true acrostic poem. I definitely will continue working on this. — I’m not sure that I managed to add the internal rhyme in a proper format, yet.
Acrostic
Promise
Pretty words, flowing freely
Reaching straight to the heart.
Oh, so hopeful, just a bit wistful,
May it be totally truthful.
Imagination kindled dreams,
Stunned yet again. Oh, so hopeless.
Ever the fool to believe.

I didn’t realize that there were so many different forms of poetry either. And I’ve had my share of literature classes (I’m a former school librarian). It just shows that there’s always things to learn. Thanks for stopping by my little blog. 🙂

Thank you for sharing your poetry. Writing 201 is a great tool for leaving the comfort zone and really discovering new areas of creativity. I’ve written poetry before but I haven’t really made use of any form, I’m hoping to experiment with spoken word. So far in this challenge the haiku was a form that really interested me.

Can totally relate to the ‘unable to comment ‘ thing ! Am learning to navigate around WordPress still.
However, if you want to comment have found that you have to click on the title of that particular post and then these menus open up !
