Forgotten – 2 Versions

This old house has been abandoned in this field on Highway 287 in Texas for many years. It must have been sturdily built to withstand the ravishes of time and the harsh weather of the Texas Panhandle. If you look closely, you can still see broken glass panes in the windows.

Original Version

I love the colorful sky and bits of green grass in the original version.  I’d love to know the story of the house and why it was left abandoned for so many years.

Black & White

Below is the black & white version that I entered in the Monochrome Madness challenge.  I think the black & white version feels ominous and looks like a terrible storm is about to hit.  The house seems almost scary; but I still want to know its story.

Forgotten 2

Do you agree that the black & white version changes the feel of the photo?  Which version do you like best?

  1. A good subject and certainly an ideal one for comparing styles and their impact. To me, the colour version is more pleasing as I don’t particularly like the slightly blue tint to the black and white conversion. I think if I wanted to try and achieve the intended storm feel in a better way , I would have used a grad filter to blend then top darker and bottom lighter better giving the feel of it coming in. Only my opinion though 🙂

    • I certainly value your opinion. I’m still learning to fine tune when I’m editing. This is one I’ll probably continue to work on for a while. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. 🙂

    • I appreciate your vote. I’m still undecided which ones my favorite. I do like the ominous feel of the B & W. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂
