Searching For the Half-Full Glass

As an educator of 20 years, I have experienced many different changes in the “Education World”. Everyone wants to fix the “problem” of education, so we are trained in the new methodologies before we’ve even gotten comfortable with the old methods. When I went into education I was already 31 (no adding numbers now). I had been married for 14 years and had 2 children. AND I still believed I could save every child. I learned quickly that it wasn’t as easy as I thought, but I also learned to fight for those students. After all these years, it is hard to fight the battles over and over.
Today’s emphasis on testing makes it hard to reach many students. Sometimes it seems that our system indicates that students are only worthy when they pass “the test”. Because of this many students give up on themselves before…
