Let's Build a House

Phase One… Building A House

Phase One

It’s taken months, but the planning process for our new home is finished.  We’ve even finalized many of the choices for inside our home — flooring, bathroom tile, fireplace, doors and appliances.  Now it’s time to move to the first phase of building — the dirt work.

Dirt Work

Yes, the dirt work has finally started on our lot.  I’m so excited, I can barely sit still long enough to type.  Dirt work may not seem too exciting to many.  However, we can’t help but be excited since it’s the beginning of the building process.  It seems like it’s taken 6 years instead of 6 months to get to this point.  We stopped by to take a few photos and were amazed at how much dirt was stacked up.  The dirt from the lot has been dug out and new dirt is being added to make the foundation more stable.

Though our lot isn’t lake front; we are very close to the lake (actually just across the street).

Photo 1 is one of the public access areas just down the street from our lot.
Photo 2 is a view of the lake from the dam.

You can see the large piles of dirt stacked around the lot.  Some are almost as tall as my dear hubby.  Soon the area will be smoothed out and the actual foundation will be poured.  The large tire tracks show how close the workers had to get to the trees in order to start the dirt work.

Many of the trees were saved; but unfortunately some had to be cut down in order to make room for  the house.

Have you built a custom home or are you building a home now?  What’s the best advice you have to offer someone going through the process?
