Linda James Photography / Monochrome Madness / Photography Challenges

I found this gorgeous Dogwood bloom at Davey Dogwood Park in Palestine, Texas.  Some of the blooms were beginning to fade; but there were still many to see.  I loved how the white blooms glittered among the other trees.

Dogwood Trees

Here are a few trivia facts about Dogwood trees and blooms.

Flowering Dogwoods are the state tree for Missouri. Also, Dogwood flowers are the state flower of North Carolina and Virginia.

Originally in 1548 the trees were called Dogtree; but in 1648, the name was changed to Dogwood Tree.  Some think its name came about because when the wind blows and the branches knock together it sounds like a dog barking. (Fast Growing Trees)
