Our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet
the events of life than on the nature of the events themselves.
Wilhelm von Humboldt
Sometimes we get so involved in the little details of life that we forget to look at the big picture. So many of the things that we let upset our days are just little blips during the day. I try to ask myself if what I’m worrying or upset about will really matter tomorrow. Lately, though it seems those little blips just keep piling up. I know that some things shouldn’t be a big deal; but I can’t seem to keep from reacting. This quote reminds me that how I react to those blips affects more than just a moment of my day.
What does this quote mean to you?
Wilhelm von Humboldt was a Prussian philosopher, linguist, government functionary, diplomat, and founder of the Humboldt University of Berlin, which was named after him in 1949.

Was it because you were building on the edge of a cliff? I can see that taking some extra design and planning time. We have a rather complicated foundation because we are building so close to the lake. I can’t imagine what it would take if we were on a lake front property. 🙂
It took lots of extra time and I went through three builders and the last one did not do some things correctly–water control so have had to pay others later to fix water rolling into the house.
Love that quote! It’s so important to understand that a positive attitude as you face the problems you encounter can make all the difference in the world!
I agree. If you read my post “An Update of Sorts” you will probably understand that I’m working hard to keep a positive attitude. LOL Thanks for stopping by my corner of cyberspace. Come back soon.
I’m not sure if this is part of the same quote but I immediately thought “It’s not what happens to us that matters but how we react to it”.

It could certainly be added to it. 🙂 I might need to research it and see. Thanks for stopping by and for the follow.

Perfect quote. Reminds me of something similar attributed to Abraham Lincoln: “People are about as happy as they decide to be.”

Thanks! I’ve always tried to remain positive. It’s been difficult lately with all the delays on our house. Lincoln’s quote is a good one too. 🙂

It took me 3 years to get this house built. My son forewarned me that it always takes way longer than people expect.

I hope to stay with the same builder. I really like him and he also lives in the lake community where we will live.
