Assignment 4: publish a post for your dream reader, and include a new-to-you element in it.
Writing for my dream reader was a difficult assignment for me because I don’t feel that I write for just one audience. Maybe that means that my blog has too many topics. I’ve read on many blogging-how-to sites that a blogger has a better chance of becoming well-known if he or she becomes proficient on one subject and blogs on that subject.
My blog is rather eclectic since I blog on many subjects – photography, crafts, DIY, scrapbooking, building a house and of course, just life. This seems natural to me since my job as a school librarian required me to become knowledgeable in many areas. (Note: I’m not claiming that I am an authority on any of my topics. I’m just sharing the little knowledge I do have.) Do you think there are too many topics on my blog?
In trying to follow the intent of this assignment I’ve decided that Ellen DeGeneres would be a perfect “Dream Reader” I’ve often thought that I’d like to send an email to her after watching one of her shows. What better way to communicate than a blog post. This is a post that I’ve been working on for a few months. It wasn’t until I read this assignment that I was able to bring it together in my mind. Having a specific audience in mind as I wrote seemed to help.
I believe that Ellen shows a genuine interest in people and that the type of post I am writing is one that she’d respond to if she ever saw it. Now I realize that I’ve added another “Dream” quality to the assignment (Ellen reading my post); but we can all dream. It would be amazing if she actually read the post and responded on her show with a big thanks to the group I’m writing about. Ok, enough of dreams and dream readers. If your interest has been sparked, you can read the post to my dream reader here.
it would be so cool to have someone like ellen read your blog. maybe if you emailed her she would check it out? my mom always says “The squeaky wheel gets the oil”, so you never know until you try! keep up the good work!

Thanks TJ. That’s a great idea. I’ll try to get up the nerve and send Ellen an email. At least with an email she can’t see me blush or hear me stumble over my words. 🙂 I appreciate your encouragement. Have a great weekend. L

I can’t wait to see all the topics you will blog about because your experience as a librarian has equipped you efficiently enough to do so! I don’t think it’s bad to blog about too many topics. If you can deliver a fresh perspective on things and you aren’t merely repeating what everyone has heard before, then your blog will be successful. I do believe that content trumps quantity. You may not blog often, but when you do, it will be worth it and your content will get you noticed! I blog about life and my twenties at http://itsdollydarling.wordpress.com let me know what you think 🙂

Thanks for your encouragement. My goal is to post 2 or 3 times a week; but life does tend to interfere sometimes. Hopefully, I’ll get faster as I write more posts. I tend to get bogged down in semantics and grammar. I’m also working on organizing my blog; so that the multitude of topics aren’t too confusing. Thanks again. I’ll be checking out your blog, too.
