Over the Tops of the Trees

IMG_7920_Fotorclouds

We found this spot while driving in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri.  We saw a sign that seemed to point the way to a scenic overlook.  It was a fairly well maintained dirt road; so we decided to try it even though we were in my Sebring convertible.  After we drove into the forest for about a mile, the road narrowed to just one lane.  For some reason, we decided to continue on instead of turning around.  So, we drove and drove and drove through the beautiful trees.  After a while it was almost scary because we were so far into the forest and because we had no idea where we were.  Eventually, we came to the top of a peak and found this gorgeous sight.  It felt as if we could see over the top of all the trees for miles and miles.  Stop by tomorrow for another photo from our Missouri trip.

  1. Your photos are lovely, it looks like a wonderful drive. Last fall, my family and I went off the beaten path in my husbands giant truck. The bumps were no problem, but it got a little dicey once the road got to one lane and the only thing I could see out of my window was the drop of a mountainside!

    • Thanks so much! It was a beautiful drive. Of course, there’s a little more to the story. As we were driving along the narrow one lane road, we passed some men with chain saws. They were in an old beat up pickup and cutting down trees in the forest. They gave us what I call the “man stare” as we drove by. We didn’t stop to ask them what they were doing. LOL Off roading can be fun; but I’m always nervous when I’m looking down a mountain from my vehicle window. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by. 🙂
